After our normal pre-game warmup, we lined up at the halfway line facing the other team. Director of Athletics Tripp Welbourne announced and recognized all of the seniors on both teams. We shook hands with the Hun players, a tradition of good sportsmanship in the MAPL, and went to our bench for a pep talk from our coaches and pre-game chant led by one of our captains.

Our center striker Marcia Ojo ‘21 scored the first goal early on in the game. We backed off a bit after this initial goal but as soon as Hun had a free-kick close to our net we picked it up. We were aggressive on offense and maintaining possession, setting the tone for the rest of the game. At the end of the first half, we were up 4-0, with all Big Red goals scored by Marcia.

Throughout the second half of the game, we focused more on possessing the ball and set pieces. Another one of our forwards, Sydney Cornell ‘20, secured our fifth goal. As the horn sounded at the end of the game, we were all ecstatic. Not only did we win this crucial game over Hun, but we won the MAPL title. Although bittersweet as this was our last game with our seven seniors, they certainly will be remembered by both the returning players and the program as a whole as they led our team to place as semifinalists in the Mercer County Championship, Prep A Finalists, and MAPL Champions.
